Stockalper, a partner with the law firm of Reback, McAndrews, Kjar, Warford & Stockalper, LLP, of Manhattan Beach, California, has been named as the 2008-2009 President of the Litigation Counsel of America. Patrick practices in the areas of professional liability, general liability, and employment law defense. Patrick is a Charter Fellow of the LCA, a Barrister in the Order of Veritas and has served as a Co-Chair of the California delegation of the society. He was a speaker at the 2007 LCA Fall Conference and Induction of Fellows in Scottsdale, Arizona and a panelist at the 2008 Fall Conference and Induction of Fellows in Napa, California. Patrick is also the Chair of the LCA Medical Malpractice Committee and has begun formation of the American Academy of Medical Malpractice Lawyers under the auspices of the LCA. On November 22, 2008, he was featured as the newly-named President-Elect on Champions of Justice, the highly rated radio program of LCA Fellow Thomas V. Girardi.
Patrick is also a member of the American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA) and was selected as a Southern California Super Lawyer in 2007, 2008, and 2009. He is on the Board of Directors for the Association of Southern California Defense Counsel and is a member of the Southern California Association for Healthcare Risk Management. He also serves as a court appointed mediator and arbitrator, and has previously served as a Judge Pro Tem with the Los Angeles County Superior Court. He is a previous recipient of the American Jurisprudence Award and has been a member of the Who’s Who in America. Patrick has served as a panelist for various continuing legal education programs, including the National Business Institute and Lorman Education Services. He is a frequent speaker at seminars for healthcare organizations in the areas of medical and dental malpractice. Patrick earned his B.A. degree with honors from the University of California at Irvine in 1985 and his J.D. from the University of San Diego Law School in 1991. Prior to entering the profession of law, he served as a legislative assistant in both the United States Senate and United States House of Representatives.
“I am extremely honored to have been selected President of the Litigation Counsel of America for the upcoming year,” said Patrick. “The LCA represents the best elements of our profession, and being at the helm of an association of lawyers at the cutting edge of both law and society will be both challenging and exciting. As a Charter Fellow, I have watched the LCA grow in unprecedented fashion and I believe its aggressive approach of combining excellence, integrity and diversity is the reason. With those components as the basis for selection, the LCA will continue to be at the forefront in the quality of its Fellowship and its strength as a professional society. Two thousand nine will be a watershed year for us as we approach our designated capacity of 3,500 Fellows. Expansion of practice development opportunities, which for me personally have allowed consistent professional growth even in this difficult business environment, will be high on my list of priorities, as will be adding to the number of practice institutes. I will also be encouraging our Fellows to associate with one of the five honorary trial orders, which allows one to be further acknowledged for his or her superior advocacy, experiences and prowess in trial and appellate courts.”
“The peer reviewed Journal of Court is presently being edited, but additional articles can still be included. The Journal gives preference not only to our Fellows, but to their firm members as well. The legal authorship opportunity it presents is of great firm value given the biographical enhancement it offers. I hope to get to know our Fellows and their spouses at this year’s Santa Fe and Charleston conferences in the spring and fall, at the Renaissance Symposium in Chicago this summer, which will be a joint venture of the Order of Centurions and the Institute of Trial Presentation, and at the LCA Diversity Summit in Atlanta later in 2009. I look forward to leading the LCA in its mission of diversity and achieving the worthy goals we have and will continue to set.”
Patrick is a longtime Southern Californian who grew up in San Diego and now resides with his wife and two children in Long Beach.
